CharactersMoreMy non-fiction is drawn primarily from childhood memories of Yulan, New York, during the late 1950’s and early 60’s.The fiction is character-driven with characteristics, dialogue and perceptions, stemming from experience and imagination. Characters are hybrids, functioning as soldiers, lawyers, police officers, teachers, photographers, painters . . . in various settings, often reflecting a blue-collar nuance and culture.Conflicts between daughters, mothers, fathers, sons, brothers, sisters, husbands and wives are complicated by changes from those around them as well as from within. They arise from philandering spouses, selfish, incompetent or overindulgent parents, or individuals, who must change. Plots—linear and cyclical—reflect human drama: strength, weakness, doubt, certainty, moral choices and consequences, love, hate, fear, hope, anxiety, despair and happiness.
